Urgent action to tackle climate change will only be possible with significant public support for lifestyle changes, but arguments that seek to delay climate action are widespread. We present evidence that despite strong public support for many low-carbon lifestyle strategies in principle, these entrenched narratives of inaction, or discourses of delay, are limiting beliefs that a fair, low-carbon future is possible. We discuss possible ways to counter these narratives to ensure meaningful public action on climate change.
