NGO CSW69/Beijing+30 Forum session: Reflecting on 30-years of gender-advancement for an inclusive energy future

March 21, 2025 – March 21, 2025
03:30 pm – 05:00 pm
United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET), and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)

Thirty years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, significant progress has been made in advancing gender equality in the energy sector. From recognizing the critical interlinkages between gender equality and energy access to now championing women’s economic empowerment interventions for an inclusive energy transition, the energy community has come a long way. However, with five years remaining until SDG 2030, progress in addressing women’s specific energy needs remains slow.

This session, organized by the Gender and Energy Compact, will call for reflection on the progress made and discuss the gaps that still exist in gender-inclusive energy policies, women’s leadership in energy, the use of sex-disaggregated data for accountability and informed decision-making, and the urgent need to address energy poverty. Looking forward, the session will then continue to support dialogues on a just and inclusive energy transition within the post 2030 SDG framework.
